Tourism Law in Europe
3 Slovenian Convention Bureau, Association of Hoteliers and Association of Tourist Farms of Slovenia. 2.2. Strategic Planning The Ministry of Economic Development and Technology (Slo. “ Ministrstvo za gospodarski razvoj in tehnologijo ”) 8 is the main governmental body responsible for providing and implementing national tourism policy as a part of the overall economic policy of Slovenia. The Promotion of Tourism Development Act requires the adoption and implementation of a National Tourism Strategy for a five-year period. Strategic planning of Slovenian tourism policy reflects a partnership between the public and private sectors and with the NGOs dealing with tourism issues. The ministry thus composes the strategy mainly in consultation with the Chamber of Tourism and Hospitality, the Chamber of Craft and Small Business and the Tourism Association of Slovenia. The current Strategy for sustainable growth of Slovene tourism 2017-2021 9 defines six key policies: a) a new organisational structure: macro destinations and tourism products; b) institutional and legal framework; c) accommodation, tourism infrastructure and investments; d) human resources in tourism industry; e) environment, cultural and natural assets; and f) small and medium-sized enterprises (SME). Slovenia as national tourism destination has been divided into four macro tourism destinations and 34 leading destinations. This new organisational scheme should enable better development and promotion of tourism destinations and main destination products. The implementation of the strategy, however, is not solely the task of the national authorities, but is mainly carried out by the regional development agencies and by the municipalities, and of course the tourism industry itself. 8 Source : www.mgrt.gov.si. 9 Adopted by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia on 5 October 2017.
